Author Topic: Flux - Make your computer brightness adjust to the time  (Read 1271 times)

Flux is a pretty great tool that I have begun using that causes your computer screen to dim and change color in the night and shine brighter during the day. As someone who habitually stays up pretty late this is a bit annoying because it makes you feel tired a lot faster (which is probably healthy). However after a few weeks of using it, you can really tell how much eye strain you had before. Going back to default color, I feel like I am always squinting and stressing my eyes, rather than relaxing them.

At first when you turn it on, you will either:

1. Not see much of a difference (day)
2. Notice your screen turn dark orange and hate it for however long it takes for you to adjust (night)

Further in the settings you can customize how strong it is (and the orange/blue tint) and even include your ZIP Code so that it can know exactly what it looks like outside for you. It is helpful if you want to keep a good sleep scedule or want to fall asleep faster. Strong computer light can adjust your brain to the light, according to multiple studies.

I'm sure it's partially placebo--but you really feel a difference afterward. It only takes a few seconds to install and even has an option to disable it so after a few minutes you can see the difference. Try it.

I love this program I've had it for so long

I've had it for a while and it's definitely not placebo. It reduces the amount of blue light being emitted by the computer and blue light has been proven to make sleeping more difficult. It's definitely nice in low-light environments too since it makes things dimmer.

my grandparents have this on their computer as well as my uncles. i asked one time about why the screen was so yellow and that's how i found out about it
i usually have it turned off though, especially when drawing

I personally don't like it because I can tell the screen is a different color than it should be and that bothers me. It's also something I have to turn off whenever I'm dealing with web design or photo editing or anything that depends on colors really.

I have it and only use it when I want to use my computer but not stay up late.

I would use it, but I have to use programms that are color sensitive like PaintTool SAI, and Sony Vegas.

Other than that its pretty good to help from making yourself get eye fatigued when looking at a computer for hours upon hours at a time. I recommend it if you have sensitive eyes or just get headaches from working at a computer for too long.

Yeah, it's just weird and bothersome seeming to me.

Oh neat

Ill try it out for a couple days

I stopped using this stuff because it would reset and not actually work every time I started up a fullscreen application

Learned about this in a psychology class years ago. Good stuff. Only turn it off if I know I need to force myself to stay up to finish some work, or if I want to take a colour-correct screenshot in a video game.

More on this. Short wavelength blue light greatly reduces the amount of melatonin produced.

this isn't useful for me because my Monitor is adjustable but looks really cool honestly.
