I don't like the art style. They tried to keep the blocky style but ultimately failed, with for example characters arms curving as if someone forcibly bent a piece of plastic. It looks completely unnatural.

It looks completely unnatural.
Minecraft characters are unnatural; and unfortunately in animation (at least from my own experiences) it's not easy to get smooth motion with blocky characters so sometimes you have to screw the models. Just have a look at any of the LEGO movies (excepting The LEGO Movie) such as Clutch Powers or Jack Stone), and especially look at TT's video games.

Not this unnatural. At least in the game I could be fully immersed without my head jumping out of my skull and screaming "THAT'S NOT RIGHT!"
At least in minecraft, the style was consistent. Everything was blocks and straight lines, including you and everyone else. Here, everything is mismatched. The environment and all the items are all straight lines and blocks, and now suddenly only some of the enemies (Zombies arms curve but creepers dont) and all of the plot characters are breaking that rule. I can't get immersed into it.

I realize that it's an unfortunate limitation of the art style of the original game. The thing is, the original game just wasn't made with this kind of thing in mind. It wasn't made for smooth curvy animations, it wasn't made for voice acting (May I say the lip syncing was awful), just in general there's a lot that's off-putting. To me, (maybe not to you) it's too fundamentally flawed for me to be able to enjoy.

This seems like it'll be... interesting, but I wonder if they'll be able to say anything about the game or do anything with it that hasn't been said or done before

Yeah I have to agree, the animation for the characters looks like those fanmade animations you find all over youtube. But to be honest, there aren't really many ways you man make a game like Minecraft look really well animated for something like this.

Pretty sure I heard Patton Oswalt in the trailer
