this reminds me of the stuff neckbeards would say to justify why they watch mlp
i was explaining, from the perspective of someone who enjoys the show and therefore is qualified to explain what people enjoy about the show, why people enjoy the show
i never claimed that anyone
should like it, i was offering my opinion on the matter so that people who don't understand why people enjoy the show could better understand why people enjoy the show
i'm not touching the mlp thing because for some reason people get touchy about that, but the principle remains the same: (dis)liking x is one thing, being x is another. people don't have to overly justify why they like x entertainment, it's perfectly ok and human to like x entertainment and they aren't any more or less of a person if they do or don't. which is why i'm not going to say things along the lines of, "people hate [thing i like] because they have some kind of negative complex!" because that's frankly very silly. just as it's very silly to say things along the lines of, "people like [thing i dislike] because they have some kind of negative complex!"
but i will absolutely defend something i enjoy because why wouldn't i lol
but aside from all that, i still think that people majorly exaggerate the quality of the show.
i think what you're observing is that people obsess over the things they really like. and steven universe has a lot of fuel for things that fans can get excited about all on their own, esp. theories about the story and its characters. which is one of the reasons why people really like steven universe, and one of the reasons why it has such an active fanbase.
