Author Topic: Need a new router  (Read 1261 times)

Recently switched to Comcast from Uverse for internet and bought a new modem but kept an old router (modem is Arris SB6141 and router is Linksys E3000). The router is apparently horrible when it comes to range because the modem and router are downstairs and I get 1-2 bar signal strength upstairs with a 1/3rd of the speed (10mbps when I'm paying for 30mbps). I know it's the router because when I'm using a device in the same room or close to it I get full speed.

What's the best router under 100 preferable (the absolute max is 150 if it's worth it) that has excellent range? I never had this type of issue with Uverse

Pretty awesome range.

I'll take this into consideration

Anyone else got suggestions? All of the reviews on Amazon are around the same (4 out of 5 stars for all the best sellers)

I would recommend this router. I own the older version of it, but it has some pretty amazing range and it's pretty cheap right now on Amazon.

I recently had a similar issue while setting up internet at my new apartment. Not really having much money to throw around for such a thing, I bought this and haven't been disappointed.

two netgear r6050s and loving it.

uh comcast officers routers with most if not all of their modems
like, literally the /same/ unit

I have one of those, fair warning the power supply gives off a weird whine

I'm not sure why but it seems like new Netgear stuff does that. My WNDR3400 doesn't, but my modem does. It seems to work fine though so I'm not too worried about it.

I second this.

never buy belkin or linksys (from my experience). had netgear for a long time and it's awesome.

Get one with ddwrt or openwrt, or one that is capable of being upgraded to that.
