is a 2D fighting game/engine created by Elecbyte, that allows custom stages, characters, and other various things to be used. It is currently at 1.1 beta, and hasn't had a update in quite a long time (2 years).
What can I do?It's a fighter. There's not much to do. However, there are a large amount of characters and stages to download and use, with various modes to play on.
Arcade ModeArcade mode is like regular arcade mode. Fight till the end of the stages against various characters in your roster!
VS ModePlay against a friend in head to head combat. To the death!
Team ArcadeHave a AI friend help you throughout Arcade Mode. A bit easier the opponent team has only 1 person!
Team VSBoth sides have a AI partner. Pray your character has decent AI!
Team Co-opInstead of a AI as your partner, your friend is your partner. Play through arcade mode with your best friend and destroy the opposing force!
SurvivalFight the onslaught of characters in your roster. Survive as long as you can!
Co-Op SurvivalHave a friend help through Survival. Keep you and your friend alive!
TrainingPractice moves, hypers, and other things here. Master your character!
WatchHave the AI fight against AI. What's the better character? Who knows!
Download characters and stagesA WARNING: Not all characters are of great quality. Some have unfair advantages that make them insanely powerful (Cheap or Joke characters), or be plain awful (poorly animated, awful sounds, etc.). Be aware that some may even be NSFW. Please be cautious when downloading things so you can keep your sanity.You're only gonna start with Kung Fu Man, a default character. You might as well grab some other cool characters along the way.
M.U.G.E.N DatabaseMUGEN Free For All WarehouseMUGEN Archivemugencharacters.orgInstallation guides (read these!)CharactersDownload VSelect and throw it into your MUGEN folder. Once it fully loads, you'll want to click File and then click Open Motif. Look for System.def and open it.
Any characters you've downloaded will be in their own seperate folder in the chars folder.
ex: chars > SomeDumbGuy > their files
To insert them into the roster, right click a empty space, click Insert, go into the character's folder and select their def file. Most of the time it'll be named after the character folder.
Once you're done adding people, click File, then Save (or just Ctrl+S). That's it, your characters are ready for use.
EXTRA: If you want to add music for them and special stages in Arcade mode, right click them and hit properties. Select a MP3 or OGG in the sound area, and select the def file of a stage if you want them to have a special stage in Arcade mode.
StagesA little more tricky. You'll need to manually edit select.def in the data folder if you want them to be selectable (of course you do).
The sff and def file of the stage should go into stages. If the ZIP the stage came in has a MP3, throw it into the sound folder. This is its music.
To make the stage selectable in modes like Watch, VS, and others, open up select.def in the data folder in Notepad, Notepad++, or whatever editor you use.
When you see [ExtraStages], this is where you want to put things.
Under that, you may now insert your stages. The format is like this:

Save select.def once you're done adding.
Your stages should now be selectable and you can play them in VS mode now.
ScreenpacksScreenpacks allow you to change the interface of M.U.G.E.N, and allow the addition of more characters without making the interface look odd.
Most of the time all you have to do is throw the files into the MUGEN folder and everything will be working OK, however sometimes this may not be the case. There will probably be a README file on it or in the thread you got it from.
