$100 million dollars spent towards solving humanity's greatest mystery is absolutely nothing compared to what we spend on building a single fighter jet. Looking at the big picture, this is a steal.

I know. But why not give people funding-specific money, rather than just an absurd cash prize? You could give so many potential astronomers a heads-up with that kinda cash. Even little stuff would be great, like giving a nice personal telescope to all those kids who like to just look at the sky.

I'm not sure exactly what 'funding-specific money' entails, but you can rest assured that the money isn't just being thrown into the hands of scientists. There will probably be some kind of board that will determine how the funding gets distributed.

The money is getting put towards paying people to stay on the job, buying computers to brown townyze data found by dishes and will effectively make people be able to see 10x more area of the sky, brown townyze that area better and be able to record more data from it.
