Author Topic: Today in Stupid: The UK outlaws computers  (Read 5953 times)

we must all leave our homelands and go to antarctica

they have no richard laws there

penguins are cunts, though

they're also a source of food

Um, no? It's been this way always and the intention of the law is not to catch out the regular peasant but rather people or bodies who could actually cause damage to a copyright holder. There is no way any company will bother prosecuting a person living in a council flat making 40 grand a year.

Also the article misleads, like I previously said many copyright holders give people permission to copy their product which means that they will not be prosecuted. There is a bigger picture than just "duuh now u cant copy songs and itunes is behind bars"
Assuming that people won't use the legal power they're given is shaky at best. But, even if they don't, it's still a stupid law that needs to be changed, and I think that everyone can get behind that :)

Also, the vast majority of copyright holders don't specify whether or not you can privately copy their material. The only ones I can forsee specifying would be big names like Apple and Microsoft.

People? Who would use this power? Would the court even bother entertaining it?

It's existed for ages and has never given anyone problems. It was changed recently and only now was it reverted due to complaints by copyright holders. I'm certain the law will be reconstructed again but seriously nobody will notice a difference and nobody would care

It's taken for granted. Nobody has ever been prosecuted in the UK for the whole 20 years computers have existed for this stuff.

this is loving stupid I'm moving to canada

Any copyright holder, and they would entertain it because they're the court. They uphold the law, this is the law.

Listen, do you think it's a stupid law or not? If so, it should be changed, simple as that. Even if it only exists as a scare tactic, it's a stupid law. I never even mentioned in the OP about people actually going down for this, it's the fact that all that stuff is illegal at all now is what's so absurd.

It's like if there was a law that said "You cannot ride white-colored horses between the hours of 1 AM and 2 AM on the second week of January." Even if nobody ever goes down for it, it's stupid and shouldn't exist.

I welcome you with open arms

they only made the research stuff illegal to record and sell in the uk, not actually illegal to do
which basically only affects the research industry in the UK
That's just as dumb tho

I welcome you with open arms
