Some people see it more along the lines of heritage. Not everyone thinks it's a sign of racism.
It just feels silly to pretend the confederate flag doesn't have some kind of racial pretense to it, considering it's commonly used by people like the kool kids klub and Neo-national socialist's around the world.
And don't get me wrong, that's not the fault of people who don't mean anything bad by owning a flag. Nobody should be shamed for owning a flag. It's just asking for trouble when you flaunt it, yknow?
this. The flag has nothing to do with racism, just like the swastika. Both existed before tribals repurposed them and gave them a bad name.
All the same, you wouldn't flaunt a flag with a swastika around the neighborhood, or get a swastika bumper sticker for your car. It's unfortunate, but the meaning of both of those symbols has changed. A hundred fifty years ago that flag could have meant freedom or whatever for the southerners, but sadly that's not what it is anymore.
