It's because traditionally you play right-handed versus right-handed (or left v left), so that when facing each other your swords are on opposite sides of each other.
Playing right vs left means both of you are holding your swords in line with each other, rather than parallel.
Is there an adult leader of the club? Complain to them about it.
Also, do you pay a members fee? If so, is there a contract and does it say you can be kicked out for something like this? If they insist it's because of your equipment ask them to go through your equipment and explain where the fault is.
I find it suspicious that you'd be the only left-handed person in the club, given 10-30% of the world population is left-handed.
