Author Topic: Kicked out of fencing club without previous warning  (Read 2776 times)

Today, I went to my fencing club because who the forget wants to take three tests in one day? So I decided to skip class. I head over to the club, pass my card through the reader and it said "Invalid Card". I head over to the gate and talk to administration. Turns out I was kicked for using illegal equipment. Found that fishy because all of my equipment is up-to-date in saftey regulations and my sword is a bit worn but still good so I did a bit of investigation with the club and some of my teammates. Turns out, I was actually kicked for being lefty.

TL;DR
Kicked from my favorite and only sport for being lefthanded.

Discuss about starfish trainers/clubs you've had or been to.

...for being left handed?

is that a fencing thing that people dislike? is it religious nonsense? or is it just because you are better with your left hand than with your right hand

whatever it is, it's ridiculous lol

It's because traditionally you play right-handed versus right-handed (or left v left), so that when facing each other your swords are on opposite sides of each other.
Playing right vs left means both of you are holding your swords in line with each other, rather than parallel.

Is there an adult leader of the club? Complain to them about it.
Also, do you pay a members fee? If so, is there a contract and does it say you can be kicked out for something like this? If they insist it's because of your equipment ask them to go through your equipment and explain where the fault is.
I find it suspicious that you'd be the only left-handed person in the club, given 10-30% of the world population is left-handed.

reminds me of how i was left handed like 10 years ago but my mother got me into some radical christian private school and they forced me to use my right hand
now i can't write well with either hand
my right hand isn't steady enough
and i don't know how to write with my left hand

Holy stuff your mother is a handicapped starfish.
Being left handed is the same of right

Uh no it's the opposite.

Uh no it's the opposite.
but two wrongs don't make a right?

In boxing it's just something you have to learn to deal with. I guess a prissy sport like fencing wouldn't be willing to try for that. :^)

Yeah, that made me laugh more than a little bit.

This is why I'm always right handed. Left handers are never trusted these days.
don't get me wrong, I do trust lefty's

That is almost as dumb as the ferguson protests

I pay monthly fee, no contract. They are pretty religious and, AFAIK, I'm the only one lefthanded in the fencing area. There are, however, lefthanded tennis players. I'm going totry to fight it or look for other clubs near me. I am going to get my equipment checked later today. I love dueling but I'm pissed off by this.

bruh that sucks

people kept trying to force me to write with my left hand but then they just went "forget it" cuz i was too stubborn. the only think i was forced to use the right-handed was was a computer mouse (i've had my own computer for as long as i can remember) and i don't mind that.

it's funny though, my mom bought me these really nice titanium true lefty scissors, but she never lets me use them because she doesn't want me to "dull them."

it'll be nearly impossible to reason with superstitious religious people
