In British English 'lift' refers to an elevator.
However, given it being in a house it could also be a stairlift, the sort of seat which is mounted to a wall on the stairs and goes up and down them.
Elevator lifts are rare in most houses unless purposefully built for a disabled wheelchair-bound person.
Or, also unlikely, it could be a dumbwaiter. But that's not likely given how modern the house is and that it's only two floors.
