Author Topic: Firefox is being weird and I can't find any answers  (Read 1389 times)

Alternatively you could try to uninstall and reinstall firefox, but there is a way to add an exception yourself that might work. Hopefully.
In options -> Advanced, there's a button called "View Certificates," click that and go to the server tabs
click Add Exception and put https://youtube.com in the url box.
Tried adding an exception, and not only does it not make a difference, but it doesn't even show up in the list after I do it, and I tried 3 times. I'm reluctant to reinstall because in one of the few threads I found on this, it didn't help.

Well if you can't fix it and you can't really switch to Edge, I recommend Waterfox, its probably the best alternative to firefox.

Hold alt when launching firefox and start in safe mode. Try it then.

What are you using to scan?

I'm using "Windows Defender", which is just the new name for Microsoft Security Essentials. It's never failed me before, and I just ran a quick scan and found nothing, running a full scan right now. Also I tried opening new windows in Firefox, once again, didn't work.

Still doesn't make a difference, the system scan is almost done and it says that preliminary results show that malware might be on my computer, I'm just hoping it's that and nothing more painstaking

"im just hoping its malware"
ohoh

when that's done, maybe a system restore can help you out
preferably to a date to when firefox was working

Welp, the full scan caught 2 viruses and removed them, but it still hasn't made a difference with not letting me into youtube and saying yahoo is untrusted. Opening a new window hasn't helped either. I don't think I could do a system reset since this started right after I upgraded to windows 10.

Weird, usually this is because your clock is wrong and the browser is confused about the certificate's validity. I guess it's time to upgrade to Chrome.

You need to completely uninstall as in when you uninstall do not keep anything, that won't be enough though to really remove everything you need to go into the programs folder and delete the entire mozilla folder, don't forget to check in the roaming folder (you can access it by using run and typing in %appdata%) once you get there push the up arrow to go back a folder and you should see local, locallow and roaming, check each one for anything related to firefox or mozilla and delete it.

And once you do that you should restart to clear any stuff in the temp folder and you should have truly uninstalled firefox completely, then you can reinstall.

you don't have microsofts parental controls on do you? iirc that messes with stuff

It won't let me select anything, but my parents aren't using family settings and have no idea what's going on.

Also, I turned my computer off and on again and youtube is mostly fine for some reason now, but every now and then it'll still tell me it's untrusted for a bit before letting me back in.

Download Malwarebytes if at all possible and run a scan with that, if possible. If not, see if you can get this(run it when/if you do, it should temporarily stop the connection block so you can grab malwarebytes)

Welp, turned out my dad had accidentally left parental controls on my Xbox account and it all transferred over with the update so he removed it and that fixed it. Locking now, sorry guys.
