I actually want to know their reasoning behind there being so many trans characters in gaming all of a sudden, despite there being so much evidence against their idea

also, why retcon old characters that are already established when you can create a new game with new characters, then reveal they're transgender in a story arc or something

When a person says stuff as stupid as this, by this point it should be obvious this is a plea for attention.

i wonder if they've ever heard of the concept of representing yourself

Because when old characters are transgender, gay, etc. it means they've been represented in media for a long time and people are just "ignoring it" and "being trans/homophobic"

It gives people like the ones shown in this thread a foothold in their quest to be the most obnoxious people on the planet

Why does it matter what gender or love a character is or isn't for most video games? They exist in worlds where our own perceived gender roles may not even exist. Like the only difference there would be in Metroid is 10 seconds at the end of each game where the suit comes off. Otherwise the game is about being an armor clad space bounty hunter exploring planets and stopping alien threats.

Such a struggle to redefine the gender of someone whose gender isn't even important as far as I know.

There was a thread by Kimon (surprising, isn't it) about it a month or two ago that I don't feel like digging up. Basically, some minor artist in the 80's that worked on one of the games joked that it was the case. Apparently that throws 30 other years' worth of canon out the window because muh repuhsuntachun.
Even after I picked apart the original Japanese wording, Kimon vehemently defended that it was the case. These people are ultimately not worth talking to, they will not budge on insisting that their unfounded headcanons are true.
