Parappa The Rapper
I gotta believe! What is this game?Parappa The Rapper is a series circling a rapping dog's adventures trying to win the heart of his one true love, Sunny Funny. The first game,
Parappa The Rapper, was one of the first rhythm games made for a console. The game was set apart from the other rhythm games of today with its memorable (yet odd) graphics and some unique features. (described farther down)
Parappa The Rapper (1996)One of the first rhythm games for a home console, Parappa The Rapper wants to become a hero like Joe Chin (the stereotypical rich powerful douche-bag), going on an adventure. He learns karate, how to drive, how to work, and how to cook. He is looking to impress his love, Sunny Funny. There are 6 stages. This got a port to the PSP in 2007, but nothing got changed.
Um Jammer Lammy (1999)The second game released in the Parappa universe, a spin-off of Parappa The Rapper following Jammer Lammy. Lammy needs to get to her concert on time for her band, Milkcan. Being later in the PS1's life span, the presentation of the game was much better. There are 7 stages for Lammy (one of which is heavily censored), but 14 total if you count Parappa doing them over again. There was also a multiplayer mode and an arcade battle game.
Parappa The Rapper 2 (2001)The sequel to Parappa 1, sporting a better graphics, sound quality, and 7 stages (and 4 reasons to replay the game). Parappa recently won a hundred year supply of noodles, and is sick of eating them, and has to defeat Colonel Noodle to stop him from turning every single food into noodles.
The voice actor for Parappa is pushing for the third game to be made, and Sony is showing interest in him (especially after putting him in PlayStation Allstars), but there is no say for the third game yet.
What makes this series unique from the rest of the rhythm games? The MeterThe meter will tell you how good you are rapping or if you are getting the lines correct or not. There are 5 ranks on this: (U Rappin')Cool, good, bad, awful, and -----. You have to have COOL or GOOD to proceed, and anything below that will fail you once the song reaches its end. If you reach -----, the song will end immediately and you will fail. The song's instruments and sound effects will become more ridiculous and exaggerated as you continue to mess up on the song (especially in Parappa 2)
The COOL meterIf you are able to double what your instructor is saying, stay on beat, and stay with your constructor, doing this twice will allow you to freestyle. Freestyle mode sounds incredibly stupid but you are only expected to stay on beat with the song (or spam.)
Boxxy Boy (Parappa 2)You are able to practice certain lines from the song and what techniques you are going to have to use in the song to complete it.
I will have more for you later.Anyways, do you play Parappa?
