Author Topic: fender benders  (Read 1361 times)

so today i was driving home from class when i was rear ended by another driver who slid into me, claiming her brakes locked up (i really dont care if she's telling the truth or not she's responsible any way you put it). what really pissed me off is that i called the emergency number at 2:10pm, and an officer didn't show up until about 3:00pm, 50 minutes later. the officer then told me since the damage was under $1500, so he can't fill out a report, and that we should just exchange information. i had to wait 50 loving minutes for someone to basically do what we could have done in 5 minutes. i couldn't leave either after i called because then it would be considered hit and run. have any of you had stuffty situations like this?

did you have front/rear dash cams?

My family fan's front fender and bumper are still banged in from that one interstate situation that I've posted about. That incident was the only time a vehicle was damaged while I was the driver.

I haven't been involved in any wreck with another car since 2009 when an old lady pulverized the rear of our minivan when my dad came to a stop at a stop sign. She apparently didn't see the stop sign. I think I had a little whiplash but I refused treatment and the soreness went away after a day or two.

no i dont, but i really should lol
i dont think it would have helped in this situation because it was pretty clear she was at fault

Wow. Did she get fined or punished for that?

She had to pay for all of it. I'm assuming she got a ticket too for being at fault.

Never been in a street accident but I've been in plenty of racing crashes.

To be fair here, you should have learned in driver's ed that when you're in a minor accident you only call the police if there are injuries. If nobody is injured and there isn't clearly huge damage, then you just... exchange information and call your insurance later.

I would call in the the police station to file a complaint. Unless he is a body shop worker he has no right to estimate how much it will cost to repair. Very little damage or not, he can't determine that on the scene. Cars are loving expensive to fix. Awhile back a buddy backed into my car. I had 2 scratches in the paint, and 3 dime sized dents.

One body shop quoted me $1,200 for labor and paint charges.

My only car accident was a rear end where there were like 1000 feet of ice and I just slid forever and then tapped a van with no damage :)

I've never been in a real wreck, as a driver or a passenger. I've had the license plate holder on the front of my car gently tap the bumper of another car when my foot I guess wasn't all the way on the brake and it rolled slightly in construction traffic. There was no damage on the other car or mine, not even scratched paint, so I just decided it wasn't worth it and drove off without following him when he turned into a nearby parking lot. He looked like a douchebag anyway.
