To be fair here, you should have learned in driver's ed that when you're in a minor accident you only call the police if there are injuries. If nobody is injured and there isn't clearly huge damage, then you just... exchange information and call your insurance later.
nope lol, dont recall learning that
I would call in the the police station to file a complaint. Unless he is a body shop worker he has no right to estimate how much it will cost to repair. Very little damage or not, he can't determine that on the scene. Cars are loving expensive to fix. Awhile back a buddy backed into my car. I had 2 scratches in the paint, and 3 dime sized dents.

One body shop quoted me $1,200 for labor and paint charges.
i wouldnt think he's wrong
there is literally no visible damage, im probably going to take it in or take off the bumper to check myself though

Back in high school my brother picked me up after classes one day. The parking lot loops around and there is a stop sign near the part that feeds back into the main road. As my brother stopped at the sign a girl a couple years above me slammed her brakes and rear ended us moderately hard. She claimed to the police officer that she didn't expect my brother to stop there because no one ever stops at that sign.

Must have been a shocker to her to find out that stop signs are used

My dad was in an accident several years ago. He stopped at a stoplight while driving his '01 Focus ZX3 and someone in a silver Nissan Maxima plowed into him. My dad's car got away with a few dings in the rear bumper and some underlying frame damage. The other car's entire front end was crumpled up and the air bags deployed. The other driver had to pay my dad over $1500 in addition to his ticket and his own repairs (unless he got rid of the car, may have been totaled). My dad's car was barely damaged at all cosmetically so he took that $1500 and used it to completely pay off the car loans. In other words, a bad accident ended very well.

Someone slammed into my grandpas truck and had to pay somewhere around that. The entire bed of the truck had to be replaced because there was no way to replace the one area.
He got a used truck bed and had it put on by a local mechanic who did it cheap. He used the rest to pay off stuff

my car has a stuffload of door dings on it
and a spot where someone key'd it

My parents have this crazy 30+ year old insurance policy that prevents them from raising premiums due to claims. So every time my dad dings up his truck it's a few grand in the pocket and we hammer out the dent ourselves.

A dude T-boned my grandpa in like 2004. His car was loving destroyed it sucked

really? I could've done it for like a tenth of that smfh

buying a new bumper and getting it painted/installed where I live would cost you about 800, but they wanted to charge you 1.2k just to repair yours? too many car mechanics out there are theives
