Can't seem to install this seeing as the shaders keep being restored to their original version.

Had the same problem, I hand-tweaked the variables and it seems like I managed to get rid of any noticeable artifacts.
Shader file
How it looks:

Updated the shader linked in the OP. I've custom-tweaked the fudge factors to get rid of essentially all the shadow artifacts (weird patterns, darkness in the distance). Do note that the "correct" values of these factors vary by preference, your shader quality and whether or not you've modified the Poisson disk (aanddd probably graphics card. you'll probably also have to tweak them if you don't use the exact same GPU as me.). If you don't use Max shaders, you'll need to play with these values (lines 18 to 21, very clearly marked) until there's minimal artifacts.

There's 4 values near the top of the file that start with fudgeFactor. These control the artifacts. Adjust them to be as low as possible whilst with as few artifacts as possible (lower = more artifacts).

the launcher and steam updates (but not just running from steam) restore any files you modify

you'll have to use the launcher bypass argument, make the file read-only, or run the game from Steam to use it

Oh yeah I just followed Kamutog's advice and it runs fine now. Oh wow I get 60 FPS at a relatively high brickcount on my GTX 760.

using a gt 630 and it seems that I get lower fps with this on
I'l pass

Actually, I have this problem too, any ideas for fix?

Never mind, I missed the post couple posts up  from mine

Sorry, but how do you enable it? I replaced the renderCsm_frag.glsl, but it doesn't have any different shadows. If it is a keybind, I don't see anything for it. plz help
