Author Topic: Apartment RP  (Read 2129 times)

There's plenty of things to RP about. For Example:
Making small talk with your apartment friends.
Washing clothes.
Pooping in the neighbors toilet.
Listening to loud music and annoying the neighbor
Trying to dig your way out of the prison that is the hotel life
Running out and killing the neighbor for pooping in your toilet
And much more.
I'm should just expand upon my original intentions for this gamemode in a block of text nobody'll read.

I intended it to be a sort-of playground for roleplayers that are less experienced, the kind you see in family roleplays. I wanted to give them a very nice looking and sounding map, with decent mechanics. Most people hate family roleplays, but those people are having a hell-of-a-time if I knew one. Just the things that they come up with tells me that they wont have trouble finding out what to roleplay. I remember back when I began roleplaying I was similar to that, though a bit more serious and wordy. I was on daily, I hosted daily, I had mass amounts of fun and I even stayed up late and got in trouble just to do it. To being able to give to a set of people like that the content to make a really nice server, even whether they care or not, makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something. I think the problem people have with roleplaying servers nowadays isn't necessarily the people, it's how low-quality the servers are. If the servers were better, people probably wouldn't mind the roleplaying so much.

On the other hand I could appeal to the bigger audience and turn this into it's own gamemode with actual things to do instead of having the players do some crazy roleplaying things. I could most definitely do both. I might just release the version with room-owning and such early, and then begin working on the actual gamemode later on and release that too.

Would be better if instead of an apartment RPG, it was a mall RPG. Could add in a lot more features that way.
Plus, what can you RP about?
"hey man come see my apartment"
"wow you should check out mine"
"great, now what do we do?"

I really like the mall idea. I like the sound of a large building where vendors get there own small stores and everyone can rp from there. Even then, those that don't have/want stores could just explore and visit around. I've been to similar servers but their builds are really bad and they drop the projects after a few days. Plus the only people who build onto it are friends of the host.

Same could be said about the Jail Escape RP's out there and so fourth. Deal with it.

Jail escape servers have a point: to escape. It lets teams win and lose becoming a game. I suppose putting the phrase "RP" in front of anything strips its goal.

Oh the mundanity of it all. I really can't understand how people can waste so much time doing nothing.
At least GMod Tower has minigames that let you buy different furniture for your room giving it an actual purpose.
I find sense of accomplishment fun. I can't vouch for you people...

The only reason they're having a 'hell of a time' is because they don't give a stuff about what they're doing, they're just loving around. Your RP is going to be way too structured for the average Family RP player to be on. Family RPers want to do whatever the forget they want, not be locked inside an apartment building where the only thing they can change about their rooms is stuff like 'wall color'. I get the idea, it's noble, I too pity family RPer's out of pure arrogance because my building skill got to my head a million years ago. The fact of the matter is they probably don't want your super flashy well-organized family rp imagination station, they're happy with their default builds that they can do whatever they want to. Even so, at the end of the day, a well-built Family RP with 100,000gb worth of soopur cewl FX sounds is still just a glorified family RP.

From any stand-point, this just looks like a boring idea. Maybe back when I was 13 and had literally 0 better things to be doing, I would love this server. But what's the point in sitting around, doing nothing and talking to people on a video game when I could just as easily be doing it in real life, with real physical people? What an absolute waste of time.

-snip-
That's probably what I'm going to end up doing, a Gmod-Tower like server with things to do. I've just had no time to continue doing anything yet and current setbacks on the hotel rooms like them not resetting properly when someone leaves is also pretty much putting this on a halt. That and I would pretty much need to redo the entire ownership system to be able to include purchasable furniture. I guess you could say that this was a concept and my laziness made me want to pass it off as a role-play. Wouldn't be the first time I tried to structure a role-play too much, so.

And hey, I've put a 1-minute music loop to be under 1mb before, I know what I'm doing with filesizes. >:L

Plus, what can you RP about?

"stuff apartments on fire"
"stuff locked keys in apartment"
"stuff water-main broke"
"stuff burglars and stuff in my room"
"stuff can't find my remote"
"stuff lost my room key"
tons of ideas, those are just a few.

rp a acid trip
not to be mistaken with rping as sugar

RIP project. Lost interest because 2much work and nobody helping or encouraging me on it. That and the idea at first was flawed and even if I wanted to move onto more blockland-towery things, the workload would be too much to stack ontop of school and me time.

All files minus the modified version of the build in the OP. I didn't include the modified version because I'm too lazy to get the bricks I added on, and events.
