Author Topic: Website hosting, ideas?  (Read 1712 times)

search https://Namecheap.com first. Right now they're selling .xyz domains for $1/year. srs. Others like .net are like 5 bucks a year.

yeah i'm with namecheap and have always found them to be great

I've seen that, but are they reliable?
I mean, they're just a domain registrar. You gotta get hosting seperately. They're 100% reliable for keeping your domain registered as long as you keep paying

I could pay for hosting and the domain there instead, would that be a good idea?

also with namecheap, paying $8/year

I see shared hosting for $9.88/yr with namecheap, I think I might go for it.

Also make sure to read that the $9.88 is ONLY for the first year, it will be $38.88/year after that.

Yeah, I saw that too, still thinking about going for it though since a year is pretty long

piecrustforgetsdogs.com is availible

Hm.....

This is just domain name registration, you don't get any actual hosting from this, just a domain name

So with that being said:
12 bucks a year for a .com domain?? holy stuff
Seems pretty average.

Also, given that many hosting providers give you a domain name either free or at a discount if you host with them, this doesn't seem like all that great of a deal

it's illegal to do that
hardly. ICANN isn't a government thing. you're not going to get in any real trouble
and it doesn't really make any difference. random people on the internet aren't going to know your real address or phone number, and google definitely isn't going to try to contact you by snail mail or a text before trying your email address

yeah but $40 is a lot of money for a domain name

there's also 000webhost just so you know which is a free web host
its half decent, not the best out there definitely though

ok but that would mean anyone who wanted my domain could challenge me for it, and i would immediately lose because i would have provided false information
