In the Catholic faith the pope is the bridge between god and earth. The Protestants don't agree with that, so if your a protestant its okay to talk to god where as if you the catholic only the pope can talk to god.

Islam with its many sects has the Imam which is similar to the pope. Iran also has the Grand Ayatollah. However I think Count would be know more on this topic than I would.

i dont say this to be dismissive, but why should anyone give a stuff about "the pope". he isnt an authority figure on anything that matters, nor does he barely know enough to speak knowledgeably on anything except catholic doctrine. even if he is a nice guy hes still a religious nut.

He's influential, as dooble said, because he represents 1.25 billion people, which is a significant portion of the population. He's made very positive effects as well and is very open-minded to new philosophies the church hasn't considered before.

im not a christian but i know that there is virtually no biblical basis for the pope having the authority he has, nor his supposed status as a person who is god's "representative". his authority comes from people who have given him it through man-made catholic church doctrine; his authority does not come from god. i despise the pope because he has manipulated religion to gain an immense amount of influence and power. the church he leads is the exact type of church that jesus, in the christian religion, supposedly came to abolish. the pope is up there in the highest tiers of cringe next to manipulative people like joseph smith and victor lustig.
