Author Topic: How to operate LAN (Read 2532 times)

When I LAN my two computers it never allows me to join the other game. It says that "This is not a LAN game".
I have tried using a dedicated LAN server aswell but it never helps. Please help.

Do they connect to a router? Post Console. And what do you mean by LAN.

I just tried connecting them to a lan switch/hub but still didnt work...you know how local area network.
when you can link two computers or more. so you can play local games.

Same on my school network. It uses 10.40.*.* IPs, and apparently Blockland doesn't like running LAN games on it. Fun, eh?

Not for me. :( Stupid LAN. Btw, you actually have blockland on your school server? O.o My school wont even let us check our e-mails. Except on Outlook Express...But even now we are only allowed to send "School related work" to each other...But I still spam the server administrator...Is FUN.

I got LAN working in 0002 once, Never in retail though, then again now i don't have another pc to lan with :D

Most likely has some thing to do with your router.

I've tested the game on both 192.168.* networks and 10.* networks and had it work fine.

What are the internal IP addresses of the two machines? Are they connected to the internet? Is one of them running the demo and the other running the full version or are they both running the full version? What is the exact error message displayed? "This is not a LAN game" is not an error message that is ever displayed by the game.

I've had that message a lot of times when I tried at school. I can't remember exactly what it says but I think it was something like "Error: That is not a LAN game (1)".

I'll try to pull 'er up sometime today. The internal IPs of the two machines are 10.40.85.100s-number. Yes, they're both internet-ready. I've attempted with both one full, one demo, and both full (same key). I forgot the exact error message, I can get that later today. Indeed, they see one-another's games, but they failed to connect. For another example of a problem, I can connect to a server hosted online from one, but if I connect with both, then they both simultaniously freeze, if that's relevant.

hub is not the same as a router.
so might be different. i could only use my little hub when:

innernetz from modem, into my computer's in Ethernet port, out from my computer's out Ethernet port, into HUB.
Then my brother can plug his computer into the hub
then hes lamed up by half net speeds lol

if its actually a hub your using, and you actually got the net to work when the hub is directly plugged into the modem, then i am clueless, i didn't think the net COULD work like that. i always thought hubs were for when you had different ip options, or a proper server running a larger LAN. or whatever...

Erase that. I got it working. I had a chat with the representative of the company that manages the school network, and managed to get him to open it up. I can't mess with the network stuff, due to the school tech rules. Oh well. LAN BLOCKLANDS FOR STUDENTS! I'm even getting school friends to buy the game.
