Will it be better if it displays your ammo amount on the health bar? It would be like Halo. Also then people can use this for charging weapons.

If this was used, the Fuel/Jump/Leap jet players wouldn't function correctly.

You could use GUI hacks and clientside code to make a separate charge or health bar, but people would have to download stuff.

In halo the ammo amount was displayed as a bar on the actual weapon. That wouldn't work right because no weapons have the scope that it would be displayed on. I would prefer if the ammo amount was displayed to the right of your head while in 3rd person. But in 1st person it would be displayed above your weapon.

You could make it so that the weapon name at bottom of inventory displays the amuont of ammo prehaps?

But that would distract you from the gameplay.

From quarkenzyme's comic/suggestion, I thought this was a good way of showing your ammo. (Attached, full comic in his topic)

The only downside is that you can't have shared ammo, easily - you carrying a gun, a rifle and a minigun, they all do different damage and fire rates etc. but they all drain your reserve of "bullets".

Why not have the object hold it's ammo count instead of your player?

Dammit Space Guy why can't you just make a version where you gain more ammo when you pick up that same item? I realize this is a large bump but it wasn't worth making a whole new topic about.
