Author Topic: Planning on building a PC for Christmas and I'm wondering what the forums...  (Read 1957 times)

... Think what it should look like, as in what parts should I use, should I make custom parts, rethink the stuffty pun I just made that literally nobody would get, what it should look like, etc?
Also I'm totally gonna try to have it water cooled because I saw one water cooled system and it looked loving awesome.

How much are you thinking you'll spend on it?

yeah give us a ballpark price and we'll see what you can do

watercooling is a pretty bad idea for a first build
i would only recommend a closed loop system and thats still kind of advanced
you can do whatever you want but i would just recommend you stick with an air cooler for the first few months or first year

Uh
Somewhere ranging between $200-$400, or basically the cost  for LEGOs and Nerf guns my parents used spend in every Christmas. I might go over this too though so

Also way to crush my dreams stufflord TTTTT_TTTTT
Also I'll probably be spending the most on a graphics card because I want to play Blockland with Max shaders because it looks loving BEAUTIFUL

Yeah, definitely not going to be water cooling for $400...

forget
ok
I'll probably just steal a mini fridge or freezer and sitck it in there then :cookieMonster:
but yeah
forget.

Watercooling the cpu s a must. And costs like 60 to 100 to do so.

I MIGHT be able to bump it up to 500 but idk. my brother built his own pc so im wondering if my parents would let me do the same with a similar budget to his.

Yeah well when 60 to 100 is to 1/4 of your entire budget I'd say it's not that important...

Anyway, this is about the best you'll get for $400. You'll still need to figure out how to get Windows in addition to that, so...

yeah if you want a computer thats worth anything you will want to spend about 200 on just the water system alone and then 400 for the computer parts

great starter system
you should buy this and work up
my first build was only 400 dollars and now its going to be 1600 once i finish upgrading the CPU
just goes to show how much you can add on over time

Holy stuff
Thats actually a good build for the price

lets not confuse closed loops with open loops
what OP saw was prob an open loop system like this:

as far as watercooling being necessary on a closed or open loop
i disagree with you, you can get nearly the same performance from a good air cooler without the risk
if you're going to link up the ram and gpu and stuff in the same loop thats another story but just for the cpu a good air cooler can do it

How DO CPUs get so overheated? Do they really do have moving parts in them or is it the amount of electricity they use that heats them up?
