Is it a good idea?

Sure, doesn't really matter.

It's a good idea, but it could easily be abused.

No, not good. It'd delete the purpose of admins.

Worst idea you have ever had, JCM.

Author Topic: Should Blockland feature a votekick/Voteban system?  (Read 2736 times)

this type of thing has existed for a long time. it tends to get abused.

Why not give blockland voice chat by default while we're at it.

I actually remember Glass having it on trench wars in the old days. It was abused. People would gang up on innocent players and get them kicked just for laughs.

Lmfao no.

The guy who is doing good at the death match gets called an "aimbotter" > votekicked even though he is just good

The guy with an unpopular disagreeing opinion > votekicked

Or when you have a bunch of friends together that can votekick everyone else off.

From experience, other players will often choose "yes" for a votekick without even knowing the story/just on impulse. The act of having your name put up on blast and saying you have a poll against you for votekick automatically comes with a negative connotation and might impart the "guilty until proven innocent" vibe in other people who will kick you off for no reason.

That being said, if it's a mod then so be it. Server administrators can deal with abuse, or with people not joining purely because of the system which leaves you with a choice that's not being infringed upon every time you play this game.

and this is coming from someone who's played blockland since '07 and pc games half my life.

This lol

This probably belongs more in General Discussion, seeing as this is pretty much the opposite of "off topic" in regards to Blockland since it only deals with it. 0_o

On topic, I think it should be left up to server owners to administrate their own game rather than the players, especially considering what the average player's reasoning consists of. Leaving it up to them to determine who stays and leaves in a server is probably not an excellent idea. Known add-ons to provide this ability to the average player are abused enough in servers as it is and are hardly useful.

In my opinion, it should not be a default feature. Many people have abused votekicking add-ons, either by trying to kick or ban someone they don't like or because they're just too impatient to actually wait for a round of their favorite deathmatch to finish and then ban someone unfairly to make the round come to an end

Yes, but you should be able to disable it or make it so that it needs the approval of a moderator/admin first.

Think about the deaf blocklanders though!

Which basically means it might as well be an add-on.
Whether such an add-on were included in the game by default is a similar but different question.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was a default add-on, like player_persistance.
I wouldn't like the choice taken away from me.

I thought this was talking about the forums since this was posted in Off Topic, to which I would have said we absolutely need one.

More mods, preferably in different timezones from Badspot and Rotondo would suffice.
Voteban would be nice when there's a spammer and no mods online, but otherwise would just be abused.

I mean, there are already plenty of people who have lost reporting rights for using it as their personal "I don't like this" button.

But with votekick we aren't considering the blind ones!!

You really don't see that leading to mob rule on the forums?

Votekick systems are too abusable. A large amount of people will suffer unfairly for the amount of legitimate punishments dealt out.

My experience with votekick is that a lot of people will just vote yes irrespective of whether the victim has done anything wrong.

this. you're giving the common pleb too much power.

if there was a way to combat abuse, to prevent groups ganging up on somebody, to prevent people from votekicking other players out of sheer butthurt, then maybe, but I don't see how that would be possible.

There could be a "silent votekick" though, kinda like in GTAV. If someone voted for someone to be votekicked, nobody is notified except the person receiving the votekick. Once this person has rallied up enough votekicks, they get kicked off the server. That way everyone has an independent reason to want somebody votekicked, not just slamming in '/yes' because they can. You may still get ganged up on by a group of friends, but on a populated server they'd probably be a minority. I'm not explaining this properly but hopefully you understand what I mean.
