Author Topic: Do you not need Xbox Gold to play games online anymore  (Read 1671 times)

I haven't had Xbox Gold since February, I just tried playing cawadoody advanced wellfare online and it let me. I even double checked my account and I don't have gold. Did Microsoft change something? Can you guys play online without gold?

I think so.
On XB1 at least.
I don't know for sure since I mostly use PC and Wii U.

I think as long as one account has an active subscription, all other accounts on the system can play online

My friend may have logged on to my Xbox One at some point and he has Gold.

Another though. If Microsoft made Gold free for the Xbox One permanently then do you think it would help sales of the Xbox One? Even to the point where it outsells the PS4?

It definately would help at selling better
but I doubt it would outsell PS4, probably just would slightly sell better

Xbox live/gold's monthly cost more than makes up for losing potential sales compared to the ps4. if everyone with your console gets it and subscribes for 3 years you've basically doubled the money you made. Losing out on that much money for some extra short term sales is a lot worse in the long run, and there's not even any guarantee that removing the monthly cost would make it sell any better. It didn't do much for the PS3, it was pretty 50/50 iirc.

The free weekend is over (I can't play games online on my 360). But I can still play online on my Xbox One. I think they made gold free now for xbone...

I may be mistaken, because I'm not entirely sure how the system works, but I don't believe Xbox Live sharing works on the Xbox 360.
Each individual account needs Gold to play online.

On the Xbox One only one account on the console needs Gold to play online, unless you turn off sharing.

Thats pretty awesome, couldn't someone just log onto a stuff ton of his friends Xbox Ones and basically give them free gold then?
