Sony does it now as well. 60 bucks a year for Micro$oft, 50 for PSN.

And that's why I don't play on consoles

Nintendo also only has 3 games worth playing online. And even then they have their shortcomings.

Also I can guarantee that the NX will have paid multiplayer. It will be a miracle if it doesn't.

My friend may have logged on to my Xbox One at some point and he has Gold.

Another though. If Microsoft made Gold free for the Xbox One permanently then do you think it would help sales of the Xbox One? Even to the point where it outsells the PS4?
Halo 5 will do that singlehandedly.

Thats pretty awesome, couldn't someone just log onto a stuff ton of his friends Xbox Ones and basically give them free gold then?
Maybe. I'm not sure how many consoles you can have your account on and it apply.
I've not really tested it. My dad, brothers and i have our own xbox ones, but we all had Gold from the 360, so we never tested how it works.

Microsoft hosts a lot of servers and you're partly paying for those.
There are further incentives though, like discounts for Gold members and bi-monthly free games for both consoles.
I don't mind paying for that.

Biggest con though is that you need Gold for things like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Sky On Demand.
That's on top of your already expensive subscriptions to those companies.
