Author Topic: I opened up my computer now I of need the help  (Read 1116 times)

So if some of you remember, a few months ago I tried to boot up my computer only to get a message reading "no bootable drive detected". Many of you suggested that I open up my computer to see if the wires that connect the hard drive got disconnected somehow. Well, now that I finally got around to it, there's another problem. I can't find the damn thing. Will somebody either show me where the hard drive is, or possibly spot the problem? Any actual help is appreciated. That means, not telling me to trim my graphics card so it will fit in my computer. Thanks!

got a camera? take a pic of the inside and we'll tell you

HDDs are either big or small rectangular boxes that usually sit in what looks like shelving units (which are called "bays"). They usually have two cords connected each (one for power which leads directly to/from the PSU and one for data which leads directly to/from the motherboard). Generally, the bays are on the same side as the front of your computer is, towards the top.

Do the wires seem to be in check?

If not, how would I go about fixing them?

Get a duster can and clean your computer first
then unscrew the dvd drive, the hard drive is most likely under that

Those flat red wires are SATA cables and one of them will lead to your HDD.

Follow them.

do not do this in your room
unless you like breathing really fine dust particles that smell burnt

I believe I found it. Does anything seem out of place?

I've been informed by my father that we do not have one. I do think we have some WD40 but I don't know if that's a good idea. I do have a paintball gun at my mom's house that runs on compressed air...

Go to the store and get a can of compressed air first

you don't need that second fan, just throw it away :cookieMonster:

Is it mandatory

Try pushing the cables connected to the harddrive in a little, then follow the cables back to the motherboard and power supply and do the same.

go into the bios and see if it even sees the drive as connected

"no bootable drive detected"
I should have said in my first post; this indicates that either no Physical drive was connected OR none of the drives connected have an actual operating system on it (that it can use).

If your OS/Drive is corrupt, BIOS will throw that error. As stufflord said, open up BIOS and see if it sees the drive being connected before you mess with the wires.
