Author Topic: Astronomers may have found giant alien 'megastructures' near Milky Way  (Read 6801 times)

what i mean is
we only have the technology and viewpoint to say that those are laws, because we dont know of any way to disprove them

if they're so advanced they prob figured it out

That's what I meant
No no I mean no matter how high of a resolution they get of the earth, it's still going to be post-roman earth.

My friend being an idiot says "If we found aliens we'd instantly attack them!"

Even though they might be more advanced then us, we don't know much about them AND we could wipe out the only other living species.

the world would certainly point all of our weapons at them but i dont know about attacking immediately
the government would ask nasa to make contact
i think pointing our weapons would set off the aliens enough to forget our stuff

The most imminent global action would most likely be humanity increasing its solidarity in projects such as space expedition and space traversal mechanisms. We would not attempt to make contact until we have at least some idea as to what we are dealing with and are at least semi-formidable against hostility on their part.

Yeah exactly, laws and theories are made based off of our technological limitations. Look at how many times physics and chemistry have changed throughout history.

Unless they somehow managed to find a way to utilize the possibilities that the theory of relativity claims, that you can traverse time same as you can move in space, but that's beyond our comprehension currently.
That's the point I was getting at.

they would study us for a bit, see we have weapons of mass destruction and are killing each other and most likely would sterilize the planet and take resources
where do people get this handicapped outlook and why do they project their own miserable self-loathing onto a race they've never even seen, nor do they know anything about

because i've looked into it many times
after i played rust and dayz for years, i stopped even confronting other players and just immediately attacked them
i benefit from their resources and i don't run the risk of having to trust or exchange with them

Not saying I believe in aliens but, how people act in a videogame can't really be compared to life.

its more of an example of how you learn things about others through experience
after confronting so many other different people you eventually learn that its a better deal to just try and kill them instead of interacting

Need water because you're thirsty? Europa and Titan got you covered. Raw materials for construction? Asteroids, moons, or Mars won't put up a fight. Oxygen because maybe they breathe that stuff too and are running out? Europa's got that too. Hydrogen to fuel fusion reactions? We have three gas giants literally made of that stuff. Why the forget would they go to Earth for resources when all these places exist within our system? Earth is only unique because it can harbor life, unless aliens specifically want livestock they can stop at any other planet in the solar system to get what they want, and they won't need to worry about the moral dilemma of performing genocide. Hell, they wouldn't even have to stop by our solar system, there's bound to be these resources located around other stars as well, perhaps even in greater amounts.
but i mean whatever that's just how space works, keep going with your flimsy brown townogies about how paranoid you are when you play video games

jesus christ you're stupid

you're being one of those people who think video games are the same as real life now? and that diplomacy & foreign relationships are the same as killing a guy in a zombie survival game where you can just run around naked or act like kermit the frog?? lets keep in mind the stunning realism of human life in rust

Even if they do come here, it'd likely be either for courtesy (i.e. to tell us we're located in some interstellar emperor's district) or for scientific samples

I don't think they would be willing to sink the resources into a war with some backwater species of ape for resources they can just get freely from some rock floating around doing nothing of tremendous value

has anyone even thought about the fact that the light we are recieving from that star is hundreds if not thousands of years old. perhaps even millions.

whatever we are seeing is stuff from a very long time ago. if there are aliens there, its possible they've already packed up and moved elsewhere by now or died off.
