Furries really aren't "gross" or "nasty", they're just expressing themselves, and it's a pretty interesting and creative fandom

So that's kind of got me wondering. Is there a correlation between being a furry and being gay, or at least, not heteroloveual?
It's been surveyed many times, both through online surveys, and surveys at conventions. There definitely is a hugely disproportional amount of non-heteroloveual loveualities, and the numbers you found in the thread are actually pretty in line with what these surveys have found, although a little skewed towards the homo end
I don't think anyone has ever made a serious attempt at explaining why, however.

Also, is there a link between the loveuality of a furry and their choice in OC?
Now this I have no idea about

they're just expressing themselves,
that's where the "grossness" and "nastiness" comes from

But what about the vast amount of content that's not research related?
I understand if someone doesn't want to see furry research, but I never understood why some people get so enraged at, say, someone just posting a cute, innocent picture they drew in a drawing thread, or a 75x75 avatar picture of a dog, if they're not suggestive at all

I think it would be an interesting study of sorts. But there's a lot of variables to consider.

Out of your personal experience at conventions, and in the wider furry community (so, outside of these forums), is there a predominance for people to favour specific animals, or types of animals, in their costumes and artwork?

I only considered it because from what I've seen on this forum, canines (particularly foxes), are very popular.
I wonder if that's simply something that is coincidental, or if there's a reason why so many people here favour that type of animal.

And it was just interesting that the majority of those who identified as non-heteroloveual happened to choose canines. It would be nice to see some results from a larger sample size, particularly a larger sample size of heteroloveuals.
And even less evidenced, but also interesting, was that feline OCs were more common among biloveual members, as well as being the OC of the panloveual member, compared to the homoloveual/heteroloveual members.
If there is a link I would love to know what would cause it.

Foxes and canines in general are very popular, yeah. But I have no idea if it correlates with anything because I don't just ask people about loveualities
