Author Topic: I need help deciding on what server project to finish *decided*  (Read 1527 times)

I have a bad forgetin habit of starting a project, getting bored and neglecting it only to move onto a new project. I've been trying to figure out which projects should be cut and lost, and which projects should be finished. I've had a hard time deciding on what projects to start, so I figured I'd let you guys help me decide.

You lot chose the mars colony, so that's what I'm going to choose. Topic's locked, so I'm moving on to a development topic.

Shipwreck Survival

In this RPG, you and 7 other players in this gamemode are tasked with scavenging supplies, upgrading any encampment set around the islands and ultimately surviving. I had palnned on setting up a farming system, a crafting system, fort wars-esque gameplay and RPG skill trees. The ultimate goal was to build a ship, collect enough food and supplies and then start a ship survival minigame where the remaining players have to maintain the ship in order to escape being shipwrecked.

Zombie Apocalypse

Set in a small countryside broken up into several areas, the zombie apocalypse would center around base management, completing daily tasks, medium amounts of roleplaying and have a certain narrative set up to keep players interested in the overarching plot. Most of the server would be up to how the players complete tasks and interact with the small world around them, and I wanted to experiment with a campaign-like progression akin to left4dead.

Mars Colony[/b]

Set in an abandoned english mars colony-turned mining facility, the mars colony would be about exploration, player interaction and survival. The main goal from the get-go is to restart the colony's life support, set it up to be self-sustaining and survive. The players take on the role of a group of Americans outcast from the United Kingdom after being detained and held in a containment camp to prevent the spread of a deadly plague. After hijacking a shuttle on it's way to an active prison colony, the outcast group instead changed course for a seemingly abandoned colony.

This poll ultimately decides which project I'm going to focus on the most, if not just abandoning the other two projects for the time being, unless somebody else wants to pick up where I left off and go from there.

That's your server, bucko

Shipwreck Survival sounds amazing.

That Mars build sounds really cool. You should finish that one, man.

mars. if nothing else, for the build.

honestly the survival aspect sounds kinda gimmicky/annoying rather than fun, but screw it the map itself looks like it would be worth it. maybe a dm...?

It would pretty much be up to the players whether or not they're homicidal maniacs or not. I'm thinking of taking a page from space station 13 in having almost everything notable to be interactable (IE: shutting off lights, destroying life support machines, using ventilation shafts as shortcuts)

The variables you'd have to manage while playing are your health, oxygen and stamina. Your oxygen depletes if you're on the surface or too deep into caverns, whereas your stamina allows you to perform actions like sprinting, dodging or recovering health. The "Survival" bit comes from having to survive your fellow players and any other dangers within the colony.

wait wait wait you should have clarified that this is a space station 13 thing

...mars all the loving way
blf playing SS13 is something that needs to happen, given how crazy our community already is.

Mars Colony, definitely.

I'm thinking of it in a way that everyone is suggested to take certain roles (Mining, repairing, security, medical stuff like that) but they're not forced to do anything, leaving people free to do whatever they want. The only thing to balance this out is that there will be cloning vats that allow you to have an extra life, but only one extra life at a time. This way, you don't have to complain about being "Freekilled", and there's still somewhat of a consequence for dying too much.

I spliced up a custom chatmod that allows you to change your name, and your methods of chatting are only through talking, whispering, yelling or using your radio. You can only hear across the radio if you're holding it out, too. This feeds to the feeling of isolation, which is an effect I strive to achieve in most of my more intricate servers.

Along with the feeling of isolation, any of the events that happen won't exactly come with alarms and stuff. Nobody is told what is going on, they have to find out for themselves. This way, if people hang out in the lower areas, they will have no idea what's going on in the upper areas.

I may have overlooked it when reading it, but will there be some alien life in Space Station?

Blockheads take on mars!

OP: I would really want to see that mars map done.  I love me some space games and role playing on mars  fits my needs. FINISH IT!
