Author Topic: should I join reddit?  (Read 2117 times)

Join Voat.

It's like Reddit but with a smaller more condensed userbase, you can see the upvoat/downvoat counts on each post, and there's no shadowbans/censorship. Downsides might be less content due to less users, as well as a few subverses (like subreddits) you should probably avoid.

lol go ahead if you want to be apart of a community founded on mostly hate.

It's purpose is literally "free speech". There's nothing hateful about its founder Atko.

It's all about finding the communities you want to be a part of. You can avoid the hateful ones pretty easily, they stay to themselves for the most part.

people only went there because their precious /r/fatpeoplehate was banned. their /v/fatpeoplehate is within the top 25 voat subreddits you can be damn sure you are gonna have overlap in most of the popular voat subreddits.

Hell I didn't even think you meant fatpeoplehate. Even still, it's not like every thread gets derailed into discussions about fat people.
I honestly don't care if the person I'm having a conversation with about Team Fortress 2 hates fat people. It's irrelevant.
oh boy, a trashy reddit clone, how exciting
I just like it because it's nice to get away from stuffty pun threads at the top of every submission and political subreddits that are nothing but r/sandersforpresident clones.

if you want to
join /r/polandball if you do

unsub from like all the defaults basically, then look for stuff that youre interested in

I didn't like reddit at first because of how convoluted it seemed, but I found a few great subreddits that pushed me to make an account. You shouldn't blanket hate reddit because it's literally just a vehicle for the subreddits to propagate. Some subreddits have bad mods and people, most don't. Just look around for stuff you like.

except for nosleep
some of that is good
some of it isn't though... like, there's this one really popular one about a woman with an orange? I don't get why people think it's scary

penpal, on the other hand, is great. nothing supernatural about it. you can read it starting with this post
I also liked this one about someone who ate a bunch of some kind of candy, or something, like addicted to it and junk. that one was gross but I really liked the end of it. I can't find it though :(
I'm going to find it. I'm determined

found it!! it was icing

spoilers: the figure is the cat!!! at least that's my interpretation (based on what someone else said). reading it again that is kind of obvious to be honest
but I tend to not realize things like that until it's actually revealed. some would say that's a bad thing but if you ask me it makes it a lot more entertaining to read this stuff
actually in this case it wasn't revealed. but still

I should not be reading these things at 3am

nosleep can't function as a default. the whole point is it's like a subreddit wide roleplay, where everyone has to stay in character and not be stuffty at roleplay. thats impossible when everyone is automatically subscribed to it

i dont like being down voted so no

There's no problem with using it.

Posting is different, sort of. Mostly harmless. Most of what you say will be ignored or not upvoted.
Sometimes you get downvoted for silly reasons, usually political (got downvoted for saying the UK had a woman prime minister, in a topic about a lack of prominent female politicians. Apparently because Thatcher was divisive she doesn't count as a woman :/).

You can get some very fun discussions going too. It's worth joining if you like sharing opinions and joking about.
Just remember to take posts with a pinch of salt, and don't let people get to you.
Chances are you won't even see people who have been rude to you again, as there are so many people about.

honestly that's my least favorite part about it. it's just irritating for some reason, everyone pretending it's real
I'd rather the comments be OOC

That's what puts me off NoSleep.
Everyone sitting around going "how scary for you", rather than criticising/commending it as a piece of literature.

I like Writing Prompts (when the prompts are good), because at least you can tell the author how they could improve, or what you liked about it. Rather than pretending their unrealistic poorly told story is real.
