Paradox Interactive is a Swedish video game publisher based in Stockholm that is known for publishing historical strategy computer games. It publishes its own games (developed by Paradox Development Studio) as well as other developers' through traditional retail channels as well as digital distribution services, such as GamersGate. The lead game programmer is Johan Andersson. Published games include the Magicka series, Cities Skylines, the Mount and Blade series, and the Supreme Ruler series.

Paradox Development Studio is a Swedish video game developer founded in 1995. It is closely associated with its parent company and video game publisher, Paradox Interactive. It is best known for its grand strategy game series Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, Crusader Kings, and Victoria.

The game also takes liberties when it comes to the classic fantasy setting, at one point supplying the players with an M60 machine gun. In expansions the game also explores a Vietnam War setting as well as the Lovecraftian Cthulhu universe.

On June 9, 2014, Magicka 2 was announced at E3 as the upcoming sequel of the original game. The game is being developed by Pieces Interactive, the developers of some of the DLC for the original game.
