Author Topic: $15/hr for fast food workers by 2018  (Read 1891 times)

if you're making $10/hr you're not making minimum wage, which wouldn't be legal under this? nevermind it specifies fast food workers
yeah if they're going to raise it for fast food they should just raise minimum wage

8 dollars is minimum wage in most places
iirc it ranges from 7 - 8

you dont have to pay part-time workers minimum wage

Because it pisses me off when I do work hard full time at a lumber yard out in the heat and in the freezing cold making
This.
A stupidly high minimum wage is one thing
But why do ask these people proposing these bills think it should apply to only one job?

If you're making $10/hr you're not making minimum wage,
Minimum wage is $7.25

Yes you do?
There's a few cases where you can pay under minimum wage, but full time status isn't one of them

Minimum wage is $7.25
hence the strike-out
i agree that if fast food is raised, everything else should be too

15 isn't stupidly high
especially by 2018

The company I work for is ridiculously terrible and says no lunch breaks on my 8 hour shift in the yard by myself

I said hell no and took my lunch break haha. Luckily I only work full time during the summer months and winter break

It is minimum wage because it requires minimum skill. It should be enough to live in a small apartment and pay for basic necessities not live your life off of. This is dumb and I know where I won't be eating.

you won't eat somewhere because they pay their workers too much.
the forget? even if you don't agree with $15 being minimum wage, for god's sake at least encourage don't discourage companies that do pay that

Um if wages go up so will prices, i'm not paying more for something that isn't worth it.

people being able to live is not worth it
okay i guess

chances are, prices won't skyrocket that much, especially if it's only one company (as better workers will go to that company rather than others, increasing productivity)

and if wages dont go up prices will keep going up so dont pay for anything i guess

Wages will go up as prices go up

I'd be fine with "focused" wage increases for certain types of jobs like Fast food. An overall increase would hurt small business owners more than it would the large corperations and my boss can barely afford me as it is. Just because we run a business doesn't mean we're made of loving money. But of course hardly anybody thinks about much less understands that because they're all scrambling to make an easier buck only to see an increase in prices to compensate for the wage increase.

Minimum wage system is stupidly flawed and needs fixing.

Wages will go up as prices go up
wow its almost like
thats exactly whats going to happen
but you objected to it

i see your point, but the thing is that if wages are raised in fast food, then it means there's going to be a labor-wage imbalance between fields and everyone will try to leave the other fields to go to fast food

and that's a problem

(also $15 might be a little bit high, $12 is probably more reasonable by 2018)
