Author Topic: Walmart killed Thanksgiving and they are trying to pretend they didn't.  (Read 5398 times)

One of the final straws why I quit was because I was there for almost 2 years making 10.10 then this new guy shows up to electronics making 10.80 because he had previous experience in Costco.

The final straw being Pitch Perfect 2.
DID YOU EVER TELL THAT STORY

why do Americans have thanksgiving later in the year opposed to October during the harvest season like Canadians or the British?

is it something to do with the pilgrims or being different from the commonwealth?
partly because of the pilgrim thing and partly because of a somewhat later harvest season.

I have to work Thursday and Friday night that week, going in at 10. At least stockers get to be with their families on thanksgiving I guess, but even then our family is having it on Monday for multiple reasons.

Im just wondering what I have to deal with when i go in. I don't even want to imagine how messy the shelves will be.

My club The Harvest may have has something to do with it.

it's probably not even an actual story. he just thought it would be funny to come up with some random vague thing to tease people with

Well I surely wouldn't have quit because some guy was making 70 cents more than me.

I could find a billion reasons to quit a job I didn't need. that is certainly one possibility

If there even is one, it's probably that he sperged out over someone trying to buy/return a copy of Pitch Perfect 2.

Having previous experience is a legitimate reason to come in at a higher wage.

He worked in costco's electronics for less than a year. He even told me our electronics had much more than his electronics.

Me working in walmart's electronics for 2 years already is higher than whatever experience he had at costco.

Also new employees who didn't have previous experience were also making 10.10 like me.

I was originally making 9.70 back when minimum was 9.30. Then Walmart is like "we are going to raise wages!" So they raised me from 9.70 to 10.10 (EVERYONE including new employees). So any yearly raise I made were for nothing since I am making the same as a new person. That's not all! Since they raised the wage to 10.10 before the minimum wage hits then I'll be screwed anyways. The minimum wage will hit this January and it will be 10.10, right? Now my yearly .40 cent raise was actually today on the 16th so I would be making 10.50. Now when minimum wage hits I'll stay at 10.50. If I were still making 9.70 and minimum wage hit to 10.10 I would be making well over 10.50 to compensate but since I am now classified as working for more than minimum I don't get the bonus.

My store manager's wife works in corporate, how creepy is that. It's like a cult, everyone knows each other.

i don't understand what the op is trying to say
is it trying to say that Walmart is moving black Friday to thanksgiving

Walmart is one of the first companies to move Black Friday to Thanksgiving. Of course the competition would be forced to move to Thanksgiving as well to compete with Walmart.

This created a trend of stores everywhere opening for thanksgiving.

Ironically Black Friday is now the less busiest shopping day because all the deals are put on thanksgiving.
