Author Topic: Officially an Eagle Scout  (Read 2593 times)

Do employers not value something like this at all over there?
probably for first jobs, and like other people have said, college scholarships, but by the time you're making a real career it wouldn't make a big difference. maybe if another applicant was the same in all respects except being an eagle scout
i hadn't heard about this new requirement, my bad
right...

"To be clear, 'duty to God' has been a part of the Boy Scouts of America from the start. The first BSA Handbook for Boys, published in 1911, says 'no boy can grow into the best kind of citizenship without recognizing his obligation to God.'"

You always get that one person who has to emphasize on the involvement of religion in the scouts.
And ofc it'd be a furry like headcrab
I was asking honest questions; "do they do this? Do they allow that?" trying to learn more, and helping to answer other people's questions of "are agnostics and atheists allowed?"
Leave it to you two to have a problem with that

You know the scouts have every loving right to say you have to be involved in a religion.
Absolutely, and i don't have any problem with it, or scouts in general, and I recognize that this is an achievement for OP.

What I do have a problem with is organizations with discriminatory policies using taxpayer funded institutions  (public schools) for operation and recruitment. At the very least, if a school doesn't wish to support their policies, they should be allowed not to. But they aren't.

yeah that's not very fair. They should fix that.

General rule with the BLF. Most people that are quick to denounce something because of religion are furries. Like obviously it isn't true 100% of the time but its something I've noticed over the years.

Agreed.

I think its just because that Adam is openly atheist and perhaps one of the more commonly seen one in threads involving religious discussion. I think the fact that he's furry is very minor.

furries of a feather tip fedoras together

Are you sure that's not just confirmation bias based off a group you have a previous hatred of, or the fact that there's just a lot of furries here in general? If you have some objective numbers I'd be interested in seeing them.

Also, I'm not denouncing it. I agreed with you on their right to require religious affiliation, and you agreed with me on the thing I do have a problem with

I have no real hate towards the furry community though. I definitely also don't care about this enough to go pull up examples from all the years I've been here. I also have the same view on religion as you so there would be zero point in furthering this discussion

If anything my "hate" towards the furry community goes as far as saying Furcigarette to frontrox lmao

Thanks to everyone who thanked me! Just turned in the application and I'll get it back somewhere around 2 weeks to a month.

On the point of religion, our troop wasn't that focused on religion. But I believe is was technically required to get in, but since we live in a place that pretty much just has christians it wasn't that big of a deal. We even meet at a church.
Why was this even brought up lol

I swear I've seen more, though. Meh, whatever.

I brought it up cuz I just had a few questions how a few things worked, then others kinda followed

we were gonna go on a camping trip or something but the dude in charge was like "don't tell your parents I said this, but you can sleep in just your underwear"
Oh no did that guy try to do what i think he was going to do.

Alternate Universe Foxscotch: Raped by boy scout leader.

right...

the requirement to discuss duty to god at scoutmaster conferences comes into effect next year. so it's a new requirement.
it has never been required to discuss it at scoutmaster conferences before 2016. ever.

Why was this even brought up lol
it comes up in every thread about the bsa lol

Congrats! I just became a Cadet Captain in the Civil Air Patrol. Higher echelons FTW
