Author Topic: Tributary — Afternoon, Day 7  (Read 26596 times)

Öln begins using some of the fluffier, less durable feathers to clean his knife. He repositions himself to look out from the cave, having never really looked around from it before.
Once the knife is clean(ish), he puts the bloodied feathers along with the inedible parts of the duck into its skin, and he wraps it all into a bag of chum for later.

He notices a large bird of prey watching him, and jumps up in surprise. He backs into the cave, but realizes it's only a bird and slowly walks back into view. He waves the chum-bag of bird bits to see if it entices the beast.

Vrede forgetin' nudges that stuff like the dirty whore it is before carrying along to arrive at the cave, sniffing the fruit he earlier obtained, examining it over but not yet biting into it.
Vrede arrives 20 meters in front of the cave where he sees two men working away at knives and gutting a bird.  He looks up to see a large raptor looking in curiously.

The bird looks curiously, extending its neck downward to get a better view.  Öln looks out of the cave to see a dark-skinned figure eying the bird.

Vrede stops, his eyes falling upon the two men at work. His eyes trail from one and then to the other, staring them over for a long moment, with naught but a mallet in one hand gripped by the head, and a piece of fruit in the other. He looks over and towards the raptor, furrowing his brows for a moment as he takes in the sight of the bird, watching it and the men as they interact.

Öln tosses the chum-bag in the direction of the bird, aiming at the ground right below its branch as he'd rather not accidentally hit the bird and splatter blood and guts all over one of its wings. Its talons are rather large, after all...

Then he looks away from the bird, having lost materials to interact with it, and notices someone watching him. He doesn't immediately react until he realizes the significant difference in danger between a man and a curious bird. Öln collects his axe, but does not raise it. He uses it almost like a cane, and waves at the man, in an attempt to not look aggressive but still be ready to defend himself should the man charge him.

He also mutters a simple "Hey," to Blatsa, and hopes intuition will enable Blatsa to figure out what's going on.

Vrede looks over to the bird of prey, watching the chum-bag fly along, before his eyes meet with Ölns for a moment. He stares, and then looks over to the mostly-passive wave of the axe, blinking for a moment before he approaches, raising his mallet passively with a light wave. He walks over slowly, making a bit of distance but keeping him a safe distance from axe-man Ölny savage. He brings his right hand over, offering the Ebana Fruit he had picked while motioning with his mallet-holding hand to himself and then to the cave, with a questioning quirk of his right brow. He's probably asking to stay.

Öln raises some of the meat he had gotten from the fowl, and offers it up to the stranger. Raw meat, while not enticing on its own, is quite enjoyable when cooked, after all.

Vrede looks to the meat, setting down the fruit in exchange for the meat, taking it and looking it over carefully for a second before bowing his head slightly. Probably in thanks, or he potentially noticed a baller looking bug on the ground. He shifts up slightly and points to himself and then over to fire, as if asking permission to go to it or use it.

Öln nods.

When the man is inside the cave, Öln points at the man already sitting by the fire, perfecting an ivory knife. "Blatsa," he states. Then he points to the man sleeping in the back of the cave. "Veshikk," he continues. Finally, he points to himself and states "Öln". He picks up one of the larger sticks and makes a chopping gesture with his axe, before pointing to himself, and then the forest.

He then grabs Blatsa's attention and points at his eyes, and then the stranger and Veshikk, trusting that he'll watch them over while Öln is absent.

Öln departs to acquire more wood, and perhaps even bring back more edibles. He nods in the direction of the Eagle, but does not stop. The weather does not look promising, so dry wood is necessary right now.

First he heads to the remains of the tree he first chopped for firewood, and continues to a nearby pine. He begins to chop it up, and plans to take one log plus the dead one back.

The eagle flies away.

Öln hauls the first log back to the cave, along with some fallen branches he found on the way.  (Total: 1 log, 4 rods, 13 sticks)  As he strikes at a new coniferous tree with peeling reddish bark, a number of small, hard, red fruits strike him on the head and shoulders.  It begins to rain, however, and Öln becomes worried about finding a safe route back.

Vrede looks over to Oln as he introduces himself and his comrades, pointing back to himself with his thumb as he says, "Vrede.". Afterwards, he just casually begins to cook the meat, balling out.

Öln grabs a small sample of the fruit, plus the log, rod and sticks. On his way back he feels the fruit in one of his hands to see if it irritates his skin.

Blatsa looks up from his knife at the new arrival.  He then offers the knife to him by the handle.

Öln looks up to get a better look at the tree, and takes a fruit. This all happens in just a minute, though, as he chooses to start jogging back and avoid getting caught by the storm's worst.

Öln makes it back to the cave, fairly wet, but not soaked.

Öln cuts a small portion of the fruit he found using his knife, and rubs the small portion's flesh on the back of his wrist to see if it irritates his skin.

If it does, Öln puts it on the ground of the cave a fair distance from the ground-based vegetables he found earlier.
If it doesn't, Öln then tastes the small slice, but does not chew or swallow it.

He does a similar procedure with the root plants he dug up. Hopefully they're edible; hauling them was a bit tedious.
