Author Topic: Is it normal to feel "empty" inside?  (Read 4763 times)

Do you ever feel some sort of underlying desire to make yourself more depressed? Or is it all just wanting it to stop? Last time I had a bunch of issues with depression (couple months ago, gone now), I was always trying to find ways to make myself more upset like reading/listening to tragic stories and listening to sad music.

Legit question because I don't know if what I was doing was normal or not. What I suggest you do is go find something social to do with friends or think up some sort of project in which to invest your time. That's not really what I did but I hear it helps.

Felt a bit like this recently. If it's not a constant thing, it's okay for it to happen sometimes.

depression is not just being sad about things, it usually happens for no (discernible) reason
if you have a therapist or anything like that you should talk to them about it. if not, maybe ask your regular doctor about it and whether or not they think you should get a therapist
I guess I should look into getting a therapist. Hopefully this is just a phase or something but if it turns out to be serious then what can I do but try and get help.

I don't think so, when someone feels empty, it usually means that they lack ambition to do most things and don't find most things in life interesting. I don't think that's depression.
This is literally how I feel right now.

I've read some things every now and then that's somewhat sad. Hell, I started a depressing music thread not too long ago.

I would think it's just a temporary thing
it would have been around a lot longer otherwise
also sometimes depression can be caused by a specific thing even if you don't realize it

you just defined depression...

The page wont load. Also it might be a symptom of depression, but I still think that some people feel empty inside because they don't do much outside of school or outside of their workplace. I'd feel empty inside too, if I were going to school or if I were working and did nothing else on the side (such as only staying indoors or playing video games). I'm not insinuating that this is what the OP does though, I am just trying to say that while it could be depression, it could just be a multitude of other things causing this empty feeling.

I had a feeling. It's not bad to have no interests or ambition, well it is but there are things you can do. Firstly, do you have a clue (if at all) what fascinates you? If so, start researching that subject and maybe it can help you develop a niche.

i got really reaaaallly depressed a few months ago
i didnt even move from the couch for like 4 days besides to go to the bathroom once or twice a day, or to get food

it passed and it was refreshing after it was over, because you appreciate being happy more
hopefully this will pass for you as well

That is, unfortunately, a very personal issue that I'd not be willing to share with anyone. And besides, looking into it would probably just make me feel worse.

yeah sometimes i feel sad but then i remember i still have to show off the ol' razzle dazzle 24/7

Information isn't a bad thing though

I'm not sure what's so personal about that, but I respect what you're saying.

stick if you think we're talking about your special interest were not
we mean hobbies or interests, not anything loveual

the stuff you're interested in is personal? that seems kinda weird. and I certainly can't imagine it being more personal than these emotions

what if his interest is making research?
