Author Topic: Upgrading computer for 2016  (Read 573 times)

Hello guys!

I built my computer back in February of 2012, and slowly added more things to it, but I've just come across some money and was wondering what the best potential upgrade would be. My guess is gpu or ram, but I don't know for sure. My GPU is probably the most dated part of my pc, so anyways, here are the full specs.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 8 cores @ 4ghz stock
GPU: Radeon HD 7870 2GB @idk clock but it's oc'd iirc
RAM: 6 gigs of some corsair something or other (was 8 but 1 stick died :)))) )
HDD: 1 TB Seagate something or other 7200 rpm

Realistically my budget is going to be about $350 atm but with my birthday coming up in a month/paychecks that could go up to $700. Obvs I use my computer for gaming and I need it to last another few years at the least, I don't necessarily care about ultra high 4k 120 fps or w/e, 60 fps 1080p is honestly good enough for me. Anyways, what would be the best option for an upgrade that would be able to help me get better performance while gaming? 1080p and 60fps that doesnt look like dog stuff is all I really need atm :)

id recommend an nvidia geforce gtx card personally

i have the geforce gtx 960m for my gaming laptop and its awesome.

so what budget are we supposed to go by

so what budget are we supposed to go by
just go by the 700.

I can be patient and wait a month.

If you can spare the extra change, I recommend waiting for the new Macbook Pro which will come pre-equipped with Microsoft's new Intel Skylark chip which is suppose to be amazing. Also boot Windows and I guarantee your FPS will be superior to a Nvidia.

for future reference, you can cut off everything after the first & (including that &)

alright, ty

I've been looking at benchmarks of the 970 and I'm pretty impressed, but I can't seem to find out what the difference is between all the different models besides price and whether it's factory oc

some of them have more video memory actually that doesn't seem to be the case with the 970. some have different fans, like the plain 970 and 970 SC, those just have one fan
other than those things, and the overclocking you mentioned, I'm not sure
