Author Topic: Why don't storm troopers shoot bullets?  (Read 8936 times)

good choice for fighting Jedi (unless you are underwater.)
i thought those were known for being able to function underwater

Look up the Cycler Rifle. Ballistic weapons exist in the universe. However it's cheaper and much more efficient to just simply arm a Stormtrooper with an E-11 Blaster Rifle which holds 100 shots in a single rechargeable power cell than to give them some shoddy ballistic weapon along with a bunch of ballistic ammo.

I've had this idea for a while now: The jedi killer gun. It's basically a gun with 3 barrels in an equilateral triangle shape, each about 5 inches from the other. All barrels fire a laser at the same time. This is unblockable with a single line (a lightsaber) and hence at least one of the lasers will always hit the jedi.
so, you mean like the blaster shotguns super battle droids had? at least, in battlefront I/II?

Plus you can't use the force on beams of lights but you can small rounds of lead.
They're smaller and less brilliant than a laser and the rate of fire reaches to insane levels. The force isn't going to last very long against an MG3 or anything of that caliber.

Reality is, lead throwing weapons (guns) would in fact just eviscerate a Jedi with no problem. The argument is though is that its just too expensive to use them (despite being probably the cheapest weapons to manufacture in any universe). It's just nerds defending their precious Jedi characters from any known weaknesses. I think force users are the cheapest characters in existence.

-text snip-
By the time of the Galactic empire in BBY 1, the Jedi were basically extinct. The only remaining Jedi were Obi-wan and Yoda, and to a lesser extent Luke and Vader*. They had no need for Jedi-slaying weapons as there were no Jedi left to mount an attack on the empire. Not to mention the rebels not having any force-capable people.

here's my guess-- because of blasters not needing bullets (the energy cores are still vulnerable to overheating) and because of bullets being straight-up loving disintegrated as soon as they hit the lightsaber (as evident in movies, lightsabers being able to completely cut through machinery with a quick swipe, leaving no trace from the saber itself) then again last time I've watched the movies was like 4 years ago so

Don't Tusken Raiders use projectile-firing weapons?

If anything it would melt through the light saber catching their clothes on fire.

you're really terrible at this fantasy non-physics thing

Except there is no way a Jedi can remotely hit every single bullet so the fact that bullets can vaporize is irrelevant. It's about the quantity of projectiles going towards them more than anything. Same thing with the Clones when they did order 66, they killed the Jedi with sheer numbers with thousands of laser projectiles.

I think it'd make sense if the empire realized the jedis ability to deflect laser and made guns for special units to counter them, but then the good guys with blasters would deal with that.

Also lightflails have just got to be a thing already

Blasters are cheaper than guns and require even less skill to use. With a large enough army (i.e. Stormtrooper squadrons), you could easily overwhelm a Jedi using only blasters.

thats why you spin the saber very fast so you can hit all 3 blaster shots from the sides and deflect them
