heard of El Niño pal
It's actually because of the jet stream moving in a different direction than it usually does.
The Jet Stream is a westerly wind. It doesn't change direction. El Nino (screw you tilde) is from a change in ocean temperatures in the Pacific Ocean where the waters off the west coast of Central and South America are warmer than usual, which results in a greater amount of water evaporation and tends to result in wetter seasons. La Nina (tilde again) is the opposite, where those specific waters are cooler (the warmer waters are more towards New Guinea and Australia) and therefore results in drier seasons.
Oh well thanks for the clarification!
No problem. I'm always quick to jump on meteorology questions.
I didn't know you liked meteorology. Do you want to become a meteorologist?
Only since I was six years old (over 2/3 of my life ago). I don't want to be a television personality, just a meteorologist who actually focuses on weather forecasting instead of being the glamorous happy guy who tells people when the best time is for a picnic. I also want to be a seasonal storm chaser and I'm seeking out my first equipment over this winter.
Wow, I wish you luck then! I've always had an interest in weather too, however that's mostly because I love reading maps and making my own. I'm not really too overwhelmed by the science aspect though.
