Author Topic: New method for Maps  (Read 1021 times)

I know a lot of people thought of many different ways to bring back maps, and yes I know a lot of people are sick of it, but I got an idea in mind lately, not sure if it could work but it's worth a shot.

You guys know how we convert models to work in the game right? Converting them as .dts for add-on models, or .blb for bricks, but what if we create a new file, or Badspot if he ever gets interested, something like .map, basicly there could be a little executable program with a little menu, that allows to import .dts files and export them as .map files, that gets in a folder in the game that opens in some sort of new Terrain Editor that allows you to resize the models, position them properly in place, let's just say you made a terrain model, and the buildings that goes with it are separated, and then you can position everything in place, and save it as a new map, with proper collisions too that are generated after saving the map, or entering a test mode with your character.

The Terrain Editor could allow players to add ambient lights, effects and particles (like smoke, river, other things) and props that could come with it.

Would be cool.... I guess?

But they might get laggy and take long time to load

.blb models works just fine and reduces a lot of loading and lag (for example, builds with lot's of JVS doors that uses .dts tends to be way more laggy) creating a new file that is exclusive for maps that does the same effects for bricks but could also generate collision better could be a must.

But I might be talking stuff anyway, who knows

Sounds like you want to turn Blockland into Roblox, lol.

isn't this just re-implementing interiors

i think .dif would make a better extension than .map--not sure why though

I thought they build the maps inside the game isn't it? I was thinking of modelling the map in a 3D program

How you would defaultly make a map was first the interior.
The interior was made in Torque Constructor.
The terrain was made in blockland mod editor (F11).

This was how they made maps back in the days.
Terrain does become smooth if you would put it at the highest setting in blockland v20.

But yea /support

So how do you expect to load them in the game?

I've been thinking of a menu similar to the brick menu to select bricks but to select map parts instead, and that you could position them in the slate, resize, change the environment and later save it as a map.

Maybe some sort of Map Editor Gamemode with the tools could be handy.

Not from user perspective.

The only thing you'll be able to load is bricks and dts shapes.
