this was always the most striking thing to me too. how literally almost none of the planes made it. they were apparently able to recover both black boxes from the flights, but flight 77s (the plane that crashed into the pentagon) transcript was charred. only its flight data recorder survived

i guess impacting at such speed and altitude can do that

That plane hit a high-security, high-profile government building. Is the lack of photographs of it afterward so surprising? There's still video footage of it hitting the building anyway from a gate security camera.

The one that crashed in the field in Pennsylvania, there are photographs of that, and IIRC they left part of the wreckage as is in part of the official memorial structure they erected for it.
