ages of consent are set these ways because people are prudish
hypothetical: if two 14 year olds want to bang, why should anybody stop them?
hell, dogs can get pregnant at 1 year old.
it's like why 18 year olds can die for their country but they can't even drink alcohol legally
The whole drinking issue has always been a huge topic since the late 1800's, if you want to go on that tangent you could talk about how prohibition was stupid. But law has it's ups and downs. I believe that drinking is risky, it can impact your health especially at younger ages. Laws are put into place to keep the honest ones honest and lower the chances of minors becoming ill due to drinking. Much like there many other laws with this preventative measure. Not apart of my point however.
When it comes to 14 year olds doing it, it comes back to the age old question of "are minors truly understanding of the responsibilities of the real world". Well some are, but some aren't, it's hard to say, but not what I'm trying to probe at.
My point all boils down to this, can someone who is an adult bring the burden that comes with love, knowingly and responsibly so, unto someone who is ill prepared to carry the burden of the risks associated with it? Does it not seem as it does more harm to the minor and therefore the law is in place for a reason? I dunno, it seems reason enough for me.
what do you mean moral high ground?
We are on the topic of morality vs legality right?
I've had plenty of loveual experiences by now, definitely some when I was sixteen, and I don't regret any of them. I was definitely insecure and impressionable, but I only did it with people I trusted. sixteen is a good age for someone to be able to make their own decisions. they should be educated, definitely, so they can make the right decisions. but just telling them not to have love isn't the right way to go about it
Education is a good start, love is a huge responsibly. I know of some days in which my girlfriend would worry me because her period was a tad late. And the risk is still there for her to get pregnant and it worries me sick. Your experience may be different, but many people have different experiences.
