Author Topic: Server add-on downloader  (Read 2235 times)

So I wanna download enabled add-ons from servers because I want to find add-ons without spamming S&R

you cant do this and i imagine a lot of people wouldnt be happy if you could

You could just make one topic about all the things you want

You used to be able to do this with RTB. RTB would let you view a list of the server's add-ons, and those that are from RTB had the option to download them.

I could work this in to Glass.

thats very different though. those add-ons are pretty much free for anyone to use, but lets say someone had a private add-on that they didnt want to release and now everyone who joins their server has it.

i remember that there was something in the works for this but i don't remember

probably died off

Perhaps you could use this to put a list of add-on files you'd allow people to download if they had the add-on? So if you had a car add-on, you could put it on the list then if someone wanted that car they could look and find the add-on and download it. The private add-on is untouched and still safe on the host's hard drive.

I have an idea for private add-ons
If it finds anything in the text files that refrences, Private, non-case sensitive, it will not download.

Yeah, I know. Downloading add-ons straight from the server is just stupid. Even if someone did make this, you wouldn't be able to send anything other than text files; no images, sounds, music, models, etc.

FTFY. Still not a good solution. When it comes to making your data public, you always want to assume that the default option is to NOT share a file, and only have a select few that you would want to share (aka a whitelist system). What you've suggested is the opposite; you assume the file is public unless the author went out of their way (something not many gamers do) to note that it's private (a blacklist system).

I suggest you improve your ability to find stuff on your own. This is a great tool:

If you can't find what you're looking for with that, begin a google search with site:forum.blockland.us. So, for example:

How about no, if people want their add-ons private it should stay private. Modders should not even edit the mod just to make it so it's 'private'. That's ridiculous lol

Blockland glass already has something like this, I'd rather have people download stuff from a host. I don't want anyone going onto my server and stealing files.

private ass-ons are actually good if it's unfinished

private addon no good
not finished = (equals) offline host ONLY!

1. There's reasons why people keep add-ons private. Everyone has their own reasons.

I keep some of mine private because some should never be released due to how much chaos it would create. Some are compiled differently to protect its security, which will failbin if released.

Unless someone here could explain why keeping mods is a bad thing.

Most of my mods are never finished so they don't ever get released and I don't really like releasing unfinished stuff because I'm not laying out all of its issues and what needs to be done

2. This statement isn't all the way correct. You don't have to stay offline to test unless it's an easy mod to make, otherwise if that's what you think you're most likely going to have bugs if you're the only person testing. Look where my Randomizer server got to because I left it open to see if anyone could find issues (yes it really had issues picking weapons correctly and other minor issues)

My tower defense server has beta tests randomly to see what needs to be fixed, I can't always see the issues myself.
