There's reasons why people keep add-ons private. Everyone has their own reasons.

I keep some of mine private because some should never be released due to how much chaos it would create. Some are compiled differently to protect its security, which will failbin if released.

Unless someone here could explain why keeping mods is a bad thing. Either way most of my mods are never finished so they don't ever get released and I don't really like releasing unfinished stuff because I'm not laying out all of its issues and what needs to be done

Well I bet when you make an add on you might want to keep it to yourself, everyone will do this. I keep multiple because I'm not going to release the demons from my private mods folder.

Still haven't answered my question why any add-on should not be private.

Either way someone will copy the person's private add-on and release it, but that's rare here, depending on the idea.
I only release add-ons that are useful to the community.
