Author Topic: Would there be any interest in making 'essential' add-on packs?  (Read 871 times)

Some guy you've never heard of before is back! I wrote a farewell a while ago, but those rarely pan out anyway.

At current, one of the biggest issues with Blockland is the lack of centralized add-on organization. There's no way to sort through which ones are good, and which ones are babby's first vehicle model or modern military US marines AK-15 assault rifle #4720.

I'd like to see if I can't try and fix this by making packaged sets (or maybe just a download guide of "essential" add-ons for people to try and download. I'm thinking of things like the old minigun, the stunt plane, JVS doors...

I have every intention of looking into the permissability of this and trying to keep things up-to-date, (classic doesn't necessarily mean good!) but my naive little goal is to help provide a resource for people to get a selection of sets of quality add-ons without having to muck their through the add-ons forum and archived RTB listings.

Would there be any interest in this? Has it been done already? Is permissability actually a word? Any thoughts and feedback are welcome.

RTB used to do just that
it certainly wouldn't be against the rules strictly speaking, but it'd probably be a good idea to ask the creators of the addons first

I have every intention of doing so, if possible.

If I'm unable to contact the creators, I may go ahead anyway, as I doubt anyone whose work is still accessible on one of the many RTB archive dumps would mind their stuff being redistributed.

im not sure if ephi asked the creators for permission for the essential addons pack.

we could turn this topic into creating lists of essential addons for building, game servers, etc. building especially would be good; i've noticed a lot of really good building mods dont get the exposure they ought to have.
example: jumpgun, airswimmer, brickgroup wand, destructo wand ++

well oRBS has a working mod manager,  you could could work with DAPROGS and get a custom category just for essentials! that'd be cool.

I doubt he asked for permission for any of them. but besides the fact that ephi's just kind of a richard and probably didn't care either way, he was also hosting the addons, so
oRBS
please don't use this

Part of my wish with this is to create a mod pack that's independent of any mod manager or third-party website, and is very easy to download and access from these forums.

It would be about accessibility and visibility as much as about picking out the good add-ons.
