it's so exaggerated too, especially in movies like south park. It makes me cringe so hard when I see it in a movie.
Well, that's kind of the point in South Park. It's a purposefully exaggerated accent in order to take the piss.

Its not the universal correct way of speaking. To the other accents an american accent sounds just as weird as their accent sounds to us.
