its hard to run fully free open source stuff like this without some form of income or donation

i disagree with them thinking that it will be stuff if they get no money though, the only think you need money for is to pay more developers or to host the website and download stuff

what some people do, and I think it's the best way to make money off open-source stuff, is have your free software, but have extra services related to it that are not free. like, having people who will set it up for you, or commissions to make custom plugins, or hosting it for you so you don't have to, stuff like that
but making you pay for the software itself, I'm not a big fan of that

When/if you get used to Ubuntu/Linux in general and you like it enough to get another distro, you should try Arch. As said before it is a more advanced user install but honestly there are many guides about installing it.

They even have a guide on how to do it for beginners.

it's really easy for me to use but that's probably because i had 110% determination towards learning linux at the time
totally not recommended for beginners

really depends on how ambitious you are to learn. my first distro was arch installed in a vm and then i used mint in a dual boot, and then moved to arch in a dual boot.

its not over your head if you spend time reading and learning and have a real desire to learn to operate linux on a command line level

that being said, it's obviously not the general choice for people. and from what OP wants, it's clear arch isn't for him. i'd rec ubuntu over mint just cause of better documentation in my experience
