What's the point of hollow point bullets for shooting on a range? I'm genuinely curious. I was under the assumption that they were only used for killing people in a really brutal way, so why bother paying more to shoot a target that won't feel it?

Literally no reason. They're more expensive than regular bullets for no appreciable gain in any way (unless you want to really hurt a living thing.)
