Author Topic: so im thinking about buying a bass guitar  (Read 1457 times)

i need a new hobby, but after trying to learn a 6 string guitar for about 3 months, i figured out that 6 strings weren't good for me. seems like 4 strings would be easier to me. if i do this, i need to adjust myself to the bass clef since i've only known treble for about 4 years.

what is a bass guitar? a guitar made of bass?
ot:  learn how to play it and then do a kareoke bass guitar version of crawling under my skin

Honestly, a 6 string, 4 string, 12 string, whatever it doesnt matter. Its all about coordination, if your a bass player you can play a 6 string aswell. Just keep practicing with what you feel is best for you, but from my experiences it doesnt matter how many strings you have.

it seems like there's more space between fingers on a 4 string. on my guitar most chords take me like 30 seconds to find because theres not a lot of room

just keep playing and playing till you memorize where exactly everything is

Do it man, bass is sick af

i really like regular guitars for the rhythm and emotion, but bass is just as good for melody i guess.

do you just want to

read and play off tabs
play by ear
read music

bass is really different from the guitar in the aspect that it drops 4 (or was it 3) notes down b/c base cleff

i can read sheet music and guitar tabs, but i vaguely know the bass clef since i play the treble clef everyday. i can read it, but i have to mentally think of what the note is.

its the same as the treble cleff just 2 notes lower

the bass guitar is also a transposing instrument, and all music written for bass is transposed an octave up (like the orchestral bass) to prevent excessive ledger lines

whats gonna happen is that you're going to get a bass and realize its the exact same predicament as a guitar and then youre going to find something "easier"

if all else fails, try the skin flute

harmonica

i really want to learn it lmao

the thing that pisses me off the most is that no matter how much people explain to me, i cant figure out how to mute certain strings. like for example on guitar if i only wanted to play the 1st, 3rd, and 6th, how would i mute the other strings?
